This is a very well constructed book that, I can only imagine, must have been difficult to write. Ms Lee manages to convey how frequently family and sexual abuse arises in our society, the difficulties our legal system has in dealing with that in any sense "fairly", how unfair that system can be when "dealing with" those subjected to abuse, and the impact both the abuse and the system has upon them. Ms Lee outlines her personal circumstances, her experiences within the legal system, and her experiences as a complainant - with impact, but without overstatement. She manages to convey how difficult she found all this, the enormous impact this had on her, but also how she found strength within herself and how she drew support from many around her both inside and outside the legal system.

I can only reflect on how sad it is that any of the events Ms Lee describes even happened, how they happen with depressing frequency, and how much sadder it is that many people who could and should learn from reading her book simply will not.

Powerful yet humbling. Delicate yet brutal. Discouraging yet empowering. Honest. Impeccable.

There was nothing held back on this journey. I can't think of a single negative thing about this read. Bri is a beautiful, strong women who showcases her darkest moments to meet the reader at theirs. Her weaknesses and ability to share her personal struggles makes her an inspiration to many who feel like they are alone. Her story lights a fire in you and becomes a beckon in a dark tunnel.

I love that Bri was able to show both sides of the law being both a lawyer and the complainant. Her story is so uniquely alluring. It was hard to put down and I found myself skipping ahead in the dialogue because I needed to know the outcome, feeling so involved in her story, then going back and rereading pieces again so I could soak everything in. My heart breaks for Bri's mom who will hear the honest internal self-hatred and hidden destruction when reading this for the first time.

This story will stay with me for years to come.

I love Jaclyn for both introducing me to this read and then lending me her copy! This book NEEDS to come to America because everyone would benefit witnessing a strength like hers. Thank you for baring your soul for us. I was pissed, relieved, angry, and vulnerable throughout this read and I was able to cry and heal knowing I'm not alone.

This was an intriguing story that was well written, keeping my interest throughout.
I never do reviews - but this book is immensely powerful and important. It highlights how common violence and sexual assault is against children and women and demonstrates that the legal system in Australia is skewed against victims.
Bri is an incredibly brave woman and an immensely talented writer. Every adult should read this book.
This is an extremely brave book. It sums up the horror of living with a secret embodied in your cells which is constantly triggered by living in the same circumstances day in dar out, the exhaustion of trying to manage that. She is extraordinarily brave in writing this novel in every way. Inspiring but draining read.
What a powerful book. At once tragic and uplifting. Bri's journey is long, sad and exhausting, but she persevered against appalling odds. Getting justice shouldn't be this hard. Thank goodness Bri has the skills of a great writer and was able to turn her harrowing story into a completely compelling book; a blisteringly honest account of what survivors of sexual assault can expect from a fractured, dysfunctional "justice" system.
